Matthew Cavedon is the founder and owner of Amagi Law LLC. He has been a practicing attorney since 2015. He is admitted to the state and federal bars, at the trial, appellate, and supreme levels, in Georgia and South Carolina.

Matthew has a unique blend of trial and appeal experiences that will make him an asset to your case. He served for nearly four years as a public defender in Gainesville, GA, where he was the lead attorney for eight jury trials and seven juvenile court trials. He was also lead for six appeals. Matthew has defended clients against serious charges, including murder, aggravated child molestation, and drug trafficking. He also secured the return of a client's property in a civil asset forfeiture case. Before working as a public defender, Matthew was a fellow at the Institute for Justice, a leading national law firm that defends people's constitutional rights from government overreach.

Matthew has seen the law from the prosecution's side, too. He interned in criminal appeals at the U.S. Attorney's Office in Savannah and, after law school, helped state prosecutors prepare appeals.

Matthew had the privilege of clerking in Brunswick, Georgia for U.S. District Court Chief Judge Lisa Godbey Wood, and for Presiding Justice Nels S. D. Peterson of the Supreme Court of Georgia.

Matthew graduated in the top 15% of his class at Emory University School of Law. He received his undergraduate degree from Harvard University and a masters degree from the Candler School of Theology. He lives in North Augusta, SC and is active in the Knights of Columbus, a Catholic men's fraternal order.

Our Name

Why Amagi?

Our name and logo come from ancient Sumeria. 'Ama-gi' is the oldest-known word for 'freedom,' meaning literally 'return to mother.' Our goal is to help the clients entrusted to us win the freedom to get back to their lives, families, and communities.
